Lesson 1, Topic 1
In Progress
Transmission and Distribution
- Transmission lines power plants to substations (HV 69 kV up to 765 kV) bi directional
- Distribution lines bring electricity from substations to end users (LV 4KV and 69KV) traditionally been mono directional not initially designed for distributed generation and bi directional flow
- Grid is (generally) a passive system (limited data to accommodate distributed generation)
Delivery of electric power
- only large consumers are fed directly from distribution
voltages - most utility customers are connected to a transformer
- transformer reduces the distribution voltage to the low voltage used by lighting and interior wiring systems
Transmission and Distribution Lines
- HV Primary distribution voltage is ‘medium voltage’ (2kV-35kV)
- LV Secondary distribution connects to non industrial premises (220- 240v)
